Being in the mountains can be rejuvenating. It is often the perfect remedy for our busy, hectic lives. However, visiting Big Bear Lake comes with its own set of precautions and things to be aware of.

1) Be careful and beware of the wildlife outside. We do have bears, mountain lions, coyotes, and rattlesnakes (to name just a few), and so when you are hiking or exploring be mindful of some of the creatures you may come across and the best way to respond if you do.

2) Mice! Since Big Bear is located in the middle of the mountains, sometimes these little guys come into cabins for shelter and it sure doesn't help that they don't have a collar bone and can squeeze through a whole that's only 1/4 of an inch thick!

3) Ants are pervasive in the mountains. Do your best to not leave unsealed food out on the counters. If they do happen to invade your cabin's kitchen, just use some dish soap to wipe them away. The dish soap residue also helps keep them from coming back.

4) Spiders, oh my! Yes, we get a lot of spiders. You will often see them inside. Most are harmless.
